Iceland is truly remarkable! From geothermal lagoons to magnificent glaciers, there's plenty of attractions to explore. Given the Iceland’s size, I highly recommend either renting a car or opting for daily tours with transportation included. This way, you can handpick your favorite activities and tailor your itinerary to match your personal preferences perfectly.

Swim in the Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa tucked away in southwestern Iceland, is an absolute gem. And guess what? It's open year-round! Yep, even when it's freezing cold in the winter - which is when I had the chance to experience it.

Growing up in the era of YouTube vlogs, visiting the Blue Lagoon felt like a dream finally coming true. It's pure bliss, let me tell you! Picture soaking in warm, turquoise waters surrounded by snowy landscapes - oh, and did I mention they offer some top-notch facials too?

Search for the Northern Lights

Now, let's talk about the Northern Lights - the ultimate celestial show! Hunting for those elusive green streaks in the sky is like embarking on a magical quest.

Though I didn't manage to catch them during my trip, the thrill of the chase was still a fun adventure. Who knows, maybe you'll have better luck spotting them when you visit!

Walk through a Glacier

This tour, known as the "Into the Glacier Ice Cave Tour," starts in Husafell. You'll meet at the Glacier Base Camp before boarding a specialized glacier truck that ensures a safe journey to the glacier. During my visit, a snowstorm the day prior prolonged the journey to the glacier to over 2 hours, though the return trip was much quicker. Hopefully, there is no snowstorm the day before you visit this glacier.

Walking through the glacier was surreal! I hadn't even known such a thing was possible until it appeared on my college trip itinerary. Everywhere you looked, there was ice—it was absolutely freezing!

Visit a Geothermal Bakery

Iceland really loves geothermal things! 😂 But all jokes aside, visiting this bakery was such a unique experience as they bake their bread right in the ground.

Yes, you heard that right, in the ground! They dig a hole, pop in the dough, and let it bake for 24 hours. Very innovative!

Visit a Greenhouse Restaurant (Friðheimar)

At Friðheimar, you'll find both a restaurant and a greenhouse. Here, you can witness firsthand how they create a microclimate to grow their crops locally instead of relying on imports.

Plus, don't miss the chance to visit the adjacent stables and admire the stunning Icelandic horses.

Visit Thingvellir National Park

Thingvellir National Park is a beautiful place to start your morning as you chase the sunrise!

It is especially beautiful when there is snow on the ground.

Visit Blaskogabyggo Waterfall

Lastly, you can make your way to Blaskogabyggo Waterfall (quite a name, huh? 😂). It's a peaceful and picturesque spot but watch out for the wind—it can get pretty wild around the falls. I learned this the hard way as I struggled against the wind to return to the bus. It felt as though my head was going to freeze off because I was silly enough to not wear a hat!
